Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the founder and CEO of Binance, was born in Jiangsu, China, and grew up in the city of Wuxi, located in the Jiangsu province.
After completing high school, CZ moved to Canada, where he studied computer science at McGill University in Montreal.
Prior to founding Binance, Changpeng Zhao (CZ) worked as a software developer and has held executive positions at several other companies in the tech industry, including:
- OkCoin: CZ served as the Chief Technology Officer at OkCoin, a digital asset trading platform.
- Blockchain.com: CZ was the Chief Technical Officer at Blockchain.com, a company that provides a digital wallet for storing and managing cryptocurrencies.
- Fusion Systems: CZ was a developer at Fusion Systems, a high-frequency trading firm.
CZ saw the potential for cryptocurrency to revolutionise the financial industry and decided to start Binance as a platform for buying and selling digital assets.
Binance was funded by a number of venture capital firms, including Sequoia China, IDG Capital, and Ventech China. The company has also received funding from other investors, such as He Yi, the co-founder of Huobi.
In total, Binance raised more than $15 million in venture funding before it launched.
He secured funding and assembled a team of experienced professionals to help build and launch the exchange.
Binance quickly gained popularity and has grown significantly since its launch.
