Cleanspark, a bitcoin mining group, announced the purchase of 45,000 Antminer S19 XP bitcoin mining equipment for a total of $144.9 million. The new fleet, according to Cleanspark, will add 6.3 exahash per second (EH/s) of processing capacity to the company’s current 6.7 EH/s.
The company’s mining site in Sandersville, Georgia, would receive all of the new miners.
Bitcoin miners had a terrible year in 2022, but 2023 has thus far been a different story. Bitcoin (BTC) prices have already increased by more than 80% since the end of 2022. In turn, Bitcoin’s global hashrate has risen, surpassing the 400 EH/s mark this year, while the network’s difficulty has also reached all-time highs.
